Alvan Blanch contracts with
Almarai, Saudi Arabia |

Almarai are the world's largest dairy farming and processing operation. With full vertical
integration from seven, ultra modern farms through to processing factories for all types of dairy
products. |

They have about 60% of the Saudi market for dairy products and are a household name throughout the Arab world. Their spectacular growth is based on a commitment
to exceptionally high quality standards and Almarai
are now widely held as the benchmark for other
companies in the region to emulate. Their exceptionally high standards have enabled the
farming industries to achieve milk yields that are 25% higher than the best European farms and this is in a
semi-desert location!

Total control of feed input is a key factor in this exceptional
performance and in 2002 Almarai decided to start producing
their own maize flakes (a thicker version of corn flakes
breakfast cereal) which is a key element of the cattle diet. CONTRACT NUMBER ONE In October 2002 Alvan Blanch won the contract worth £2.5
million in the face of stiff competition to build one of the
largest on-farm maize flaking mills in the world with two 10
ton/hour lines. It is a complete facility with 30,000 tons of
storage, cleaning and destoning, steam cooking and flaking
with drying and bulk out-loading bins. |

It was completed according to schedule: shipped in February 2003 and commissioned in
September 2003. Since then, the plant has been operating on a continuous basis - 24 hours a
day, seven days a week with the technical support of Alvan Blanch engineers.
The specification of the plant far exceeded that of any comparable maize flaking operation
resulting in the production of flakes that are of a much higher quality than are seen elsewhere. |

|
CONTRACT NUMBER TWO
Following further expansion in which Almarai are increasing the
size of their herd by a further 15-20,000 head of cattle an
increase in flake production by 2007 became necessary. Alvan Blanch are exceptionally proud to have again fought off
strong competition from the worlds largest feed mill equipment
company to win a second contract for a duplicate plant
(excluding silos) worth £1.4 million. |
 |
|
|
|
We can consider this to be probably our greatest success in a long history of engineering complete projects for overseas markets. In winning this second contract we have proved that we can deliver a challenging project, in time, to a client with the most exacting standards - a success that led directly to the new contract being awarded.
This will be the 5th Steam flaking plant we have built in Saudi Arabia. |
